SUSAN LEWIS was born in Chicago in 1948.  She lives and works in New York City and in the Hudson Valley.

She has exhibited in the United States and abroad and her work is included in the collections of Chase Bank, Bryn Mawr College, the Rauschenberg Foundation and private collections.  She has an MFA degree in painting from Yale University (1972) and a BFA from Indiana University (1970).  She worked for Robert Rauschenberg in New York City from 1977 to 1981, and at Christie's, New York, from 1988 to 2009 where she was a vice president and specialist in Japanese modern and contemporary art, and Japanese prints.  Her reviews of Japanese modern art exhibitions at the Guggenheim Museum and the Smithsonian American Art Museum may be found in the 2014 and 2017 issues of Impressions, The Journal of the Japanese Art Society of America.
